We were up around 7.00am, with the ship already docked at Cherbourg. After the usual shower and dressing, Deb and I went up to Deck 7 to see what the weather was like – it was cold and cloudy, so we knew that we would need our coats to go ashore.
We were not booked for an organised tour, and had decided to simply go ashore and have a wander around by ourselves.
We went ashore around 9.00am, and took the shuttle bus to the town/village.
Deb and I had a marvellous time wandering around the little shops and houses. We have decided that we enjoy France much more than any other country in Europe that we have visited so far.
The shops had their chocolate Easter eggs and animals on display in the chocolate shops – they were really different and we were sorry that we couldn’t bring one or two home for the family (and friends). We did however succumb to buying one each for ourselves for Easter.
We found a lovely old church in Cherbourg, and had a wander through it, and took some photos of the interior.
While we wandered around we discovered that the temperature at that time was only 7°C – and we were cold especially when the wind blew on us. We are hoping that it will warm up a bit for us in the UK otherwise we are going to need to buy some trackpants to keep us warm.
Tonight is our last night aboard the Queen and we will be sad to leave her. But we are also excited about our next phase of the holiday. We expect to be somewhat stressed with disembarkation, but I have organised a wheelchair for Deb, and I managed to contact the Taxi company and advised them of the changes, which they have acknowledged, so the car should arrive on time. So fingers crossed we don’t have any major problems.
We have also been contacted by the YHA re our booking and that is confirmed, so that is great.
More from us when we get settled in London.
